A popular Rhiwbina pub, dating back some 150 years, closed this week for the start of a major refurbishment project.
The Toby Carvery (formerly The Masons' Arms) in Tyn-y-Parc Road closed on Monday (11 August) for work to start on its new-look restaurant.

It is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday 3 September.
The pub, parts of which date from 1871 or earlier, is one of five in Rhiwbina, which were earmarked for Cardiff's local heritage list last year.
The earliest mention of the Masons’ Arms comes from 17 January 1871 in The Western Mail.
The Ordnance Survey map of 1886 (surveyed 1874 to 1881) shows that the Masons’ Arms was built on the site of the homestead and gardens of Cwmgwynlas.
The building was set back from the road, against the stream. Immediately to the east were two woollen factories, with Ty’n-y-Parc Row in between.
