Two Rhiwbina restaurants have won top UK culinary awards in the last week.
On July 16, The Good Food Guide announced its 100 Best Local Restaurants for 2025, including, for the second year running, Mesen which is situated in the heart of the village.

Mesen's speciality is cooking on an open charcoal fire, using local, seasonal ingredients to create sharing plates.
Founder Rhys Williams told Wales Online: "To be recognised by The Good Food Guide for the second year running - and to be named one of the Top 100 Local Restaurants in the UK again - honestly means the world to us. We're a small team in a little corner of Cardiff, and we've poured everything into this place. It's a huge honour, and it just makes us want to keep pushing even further."

And on July 17, The Asian Catering Federation held its awards event for the Top 100 Asian Restaurants in the UK 2025-26 at the House of Lords.
No stranger to awards, Rhiwbina's Gateway of India was again successful this year. Chef Ellen Rahman won the national award and Chef Rozario won the regional award for 2025. Both are pictured here with Gateway of India owner, Moslaur Rahman.
This popular local restaurant has been serving up freshly made "Heat and Eat" Indian meals to residents for 30 years and goes from strength to strength.

I welcome the proposed Italian restaurant and think it would be an excellent addition to the lovely Rhiwbina village.
