You can apply now for 2027 nursery school places

Applications for 2027 nursery school places in Cardiff are now open, and families can apply for a part-time place, available from the term after their child’s third birthday.


English and Welsh medium places are available at one of the 89 nursery classes in 92 schools across the city, including three schools with a dual-stream offer.


Who can apply and when?

  • For children born between 1 September and 31 December 2023, families can apply for a nursery place to start in Spring 2027. Offers are issued on 5 October 2026.

  • For children born between 1 January 2024 and 31 March 2024, families can apply for a nursery place to start in Summer 2027. Offers are issued on 8 January 2027.

Families are encouraged to apply before the deadline of Monday 29 June 2026, to help their chance of being offered a nursery place of their choice.


To apply for a place in a community school nursery please visit Nursery school admissions. Families preferring a nursery class place at a faith-based primary school can apply directly to these schools for admission.


Cardiff Council cabinet member Sarah Merry said: “All children are eligible for a part-time place from the term after their third birthday, and we encourage families to apply on time to give themselves the best chance of securing a place that suits their child.”


Cardiff has 17 Welsh-medium nursery classes throughout the city and there is also provision to support children with additional languages.
