South Wales Police are launching Operation Cimmeron to counter shoplifting, theft, and handling in all retail stores in the Llanishen sector. The campaign will cover Rhiwbina and other local areas such as Llanishen, Heath, Cyncoed, Lisvane, and Thornhill.
As we reported in August, shoplifting had been one of the most common crimes in the area for over 12 months.
The aim of Operation Cimmeron is to have a greater police presence in all retail stores, patrolling at key times and dates as the busy Christmas period approaches. The police want to be accessible to the public, as well as provide reassurance through targeted patrols and engagement, and to prevent any potential theft.
Residents are advised to not hesitate in calling South Wales Police on 101, or 999 if warranted, if anyone is seen shoplifting or behaving suspiciously in the local area or retail stores.
You can also contact your local PCSO with any concerns and information about this via South Wales Listens Rhiwbeina - Rhiwbina - De Cymru yn Gwrando or email Home | South Wales Police.
The Llanishen & Rumney Neighbourhood Policing Team regularly speak to local residents to establish what issues they may be experiencing in the area and seek to tackle the issues raised in line with the Local Policing Community Charter.
Members of South Wales Listens in Rhiwbina are saying these are the issues in the area:

Neighbourhood Watch's 2025 Crime & Community Survey is also now live here. The UK crime prevention organisation is seeking experiences, concerns, and insights to help shape the work they do and ensure their efforts reflect the needs of the community. The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and is open until 1 December 2026.
