Latest crime figures show Rhiwbina is the second safest small town in the reserved county of South Glamorgan.
CrimeRate brings together a range of data sources including open police force data, social media signals and Freedom of Information requests, to identify incidents down to the neighbourhood level.
Rhiwbina is also among the top 20 safest overall out of South Glamorgan's 55 towns, villages, and cities. As of 2025, the crime rate in Rhiwbina is 54% lower than Wales overall and 51% lower than the England, Wales and Northern Ireland overall figure.
While this is welcome news, it is concerning to see South Wales Police’s own data that the most common crimes in the area over the last 12 months are violence and sexual offences, closely followed by shoplifting. The latest monthly statistics available (June 2025) show 29 crimes have been reported, with shoplifting, vehicle crime, and violence and sexual offences topping the offences.

Rhiwbina’s neighbourhood policing team issue useful alerts on current incidents at Rhiwbina | Police.uk. A rise in vehicle crime, especially with Ford Transits vans, was identified during July in Rhiwbina. Those involved are drilling a hole into the bodywork of the van to gain access to the door locking mechanism. Also, at the end of July there had been an increase in delivery vans being stolen in Rhiwbina and Penylan. On both occasions, keys had been left in the vehicle while the driver was making deliveries.
Police urge owners to lock and secure vehicles when unoccupied and to not leave keys in the ignition or the engine running while delivering parcels. Also remove all valuables from vehicles overnight or when left unoccupied for a long period of time. Updates on policing priorities in the area are also published. These have recently included vehicle antisocial behaviour in Caedelyn Park car park, obstructive or dangerous parking at and road safety and speeding -in the vicinities of Heol -yr-Efail, Ty Wern Road and Ty'n-y-Parc Road.
Members of the local policing team attend a drop-in session at Rhiwbina Library, Lon Isa. We'll soon be adding these to our events calendar. In the meantime, you can find the dates and times here.
