Rhiwbina team shortlisted for tennis award

Rhiwbina Tennis Club could be in line for another award.

Rhiwbina’s men’s 1st team has been shortlisted for the club team of the year category in this year’s Tennis Wales awards.

Judges have shortlisted finalists in nine categories for the awards night to be held at Village Urban, St David’s Park Hotel in Ewloe, Flintshire.on Saturday 24th January 2015.

Special guests will include Ken Skates AM, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cathie Sabin, the first female President of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), and Jon Morgan, Director of Disability Sport Wales.

The awards evening will be hosted by tennis enthusiast and former TV presenter Arfon Haines-Davies.

“This is always one of the highlights of the tennis year in Wales,” said Tennis Wales chief executive, Peter Drew. “It’s a time to reflect on our successes and to reward those who make it possible for thousands of people of all ages to enjoy this great sport at so many venues and in so many forms all over Wales.”

In last year’s awards, held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in January, Rhiwbina ladies 1st team won the club team award, and the club itself narrowly missed out on the club or centre award, which was won by Penarth.

Tickets for the event, which includes a three-course meal, are available now from Tennis Wales on 029 20 463335 or www.lta.org.uk/in-your-area/Wales/
