Rhiwbina movies line-up is announced

Rhiwbina's community cinema, Monico Movies, has announced its programme for the start of 2024.

After the French comedy Lost in Paris (2016) this Saturday, 13 January, there are two contrasting British films lined up for February and March.

Brighton Rock (1947), on Saturday 10 February, is a rare example of British film noir, a work which brings the distinctive look and feel of American thriller movies of the time to the cramped boarding houses and dingy back streets of a menacing 1930s Brighton.

Directed by John Boulting, the film stars Richard Attenborough, Hermione Baddeley , William Hartnell, and Carol Marsh. Certificate: PG.

Then, on Saturday 9 March comes The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (2023), which tells the story of an unremarkable man, who has failed at all the important things: being a husband, a father and a friend. Now, well into his 60s, he is content to fade quietly into the background of life in his South Devon town. But when he learns his friend is dying, he is moved to act!

Starring Jim Broadbent, Penelope Wilton, Linda Bassett, and Earl Cave, it is directed by Hettie Macdonald. Certificate 12A.

Tickets are available from the usual Rhiwbina outlets: Serenade, Victoria Fearn Gallery, The Honey Pot and The Deri Stores for £5 each (cash only).

Monico Movies shows start at 7.30pm (doors are open at 7pm) at Canolfan Beulah, Beulah Road, CF14 6LX.
