Jane Austen’s Persuasion for one night only

A musical version of Jane Austen’s Persuasion visits Cardiff for one night only this weekend.

This popular musical adaptation has toured the UK and North America over the past six years including the Jane Austen Festivals in Bath and Canada and the Edinburgh, Camden, and Buxton Fringe Festivals. This will be its first performance in Wales.

It features songs from Jane Austen’s manuscripts and music of the era, a chamber orchestra with Celtic and period instruments, authentic Regency costumes, beautiful projected scenery, and world-champion Irish dancers!

Anne Elliot has rejected a proposal of marriage from the one man she truly loved, Captain Frederick Wentworth. She was persuaded by her godmother that he was unworthy, but after a separation of almost a decade, he returns from sea with both rank and fortune. The tables have turned, Anne is nearly an old maid and her once rich family is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Can Anne win him back? Can he forgive her for breaking off their engagement rather than following her heart? And can their lost love be rekindled?

This acclaimed adaptation of one of literature’s great love stories plays at the New Theatre on Saturday 3 August at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office 02920 87 88 89 or online www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk
