It's all change for cuisine in Rhiwbina

Updated: 7 days ago

A number of Rhiwbina eateries are looking to introduce some changes over the coming weeks and months, providing more options to tickle your tastebuds.

Marco's Sicilian Trattoria recently opened at 91 Heol Llanishen Fach. Marco is an experienced chef and restauranteur having previously run a number of eateries, including La Vita and also successful pop up events at nearby cafe Suburban over the summer. Marco's is currently open Wednesdays to Saturdays 5 to 10pm and lunchtimes Friday and Saturday.

Established cafe The Secret Shed is having a rebrand and will henceforth be known as The Cwtch. Citing challenging trading conditions, owner John has put his garden buildings installation business on hold for the foreseeable future and is instead focusing on The Cwtch. Changes to the cafe will get underway soon but for now it is business as usual at their Beulah Road premises.

Across the road, Snails cafe and delicatessen has applied for planning approval to extend their opening hours and to include Sundays. The request seeks to extend opening from 7.30am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and to vary the operating hours to allow the premises to open on a Sunday between 7.30am and 9pm. Owners Fran and Rupert aim to offer "breakfast, brunch and an occasional famous Nicky Sunday lunch"! the planning application can be found here.

And finally, the proposed Italian restaurant and deli to be located at 2A and 2B Heol y Deri, which Rhiwbina Info reported on in August, is making its way through the planning process. In the meantime, there have been 36 public comments on the Cardiff Council Planning Portal, 33 of which are strongly in favour, with 3 objecting to potential parking, litter and anti-social behaviour issues. The application can be viewed here.
