Green Flag for North Cardiff parks and green spaces

Parks and community green spaces across North Cardiff have been recognised with Green Flag Awards for their quality environments and their impact on communities, health and well-being and the economy.

The Green Flag Award is the benchmark international quality classification for parks and green spaces, providing the high standards against which sites are measured, and which land managers, local authorities and volunteers pledge to achieve when applying for the award. 


Keep Wales Tidy runs the scheme in Wales, supported by the Welsh Government. The Awards recognise well-managed parks and green spaces and are made on the basis of environmental efforts, visitor facilities, and community involvement.


Llandaff Fields has become the 21st site managed by Cardiff Council to achieve the high standards required to fly the coveted Green Flag. Cardiff Council celebrates 21 Green Flags as Llandaff Fields achieves award for first time


Amongst the Cardiff Council managed sites in North Cardiff to achieve Green Flag status this year are:


  • Lisvane and Llanishen Reservoirs

  • Forest Farm

  • Parc Cefn Onn and

  • Thornhill Cemetery.


Another key aspect of the Awards scheme is recognition of quality sites managed by voluntary and community groups community groups in Cardiff whose commitment to their local green spaces has seen 22 Green Flag Community Awards made this year. Across North Cardiff these include:


  • Canolfan Beulah Garden, Rhiwbina

  • Coed Y Felin, Lisvane

  • Forest Farm Community Allotment and Whitchurch Community Garden., Whitchurch and

  • Llwynfedw Gardens, Birchgrove


Featured on the Green Flag website, Canolfan Beulah Garden is described as providing "a haven of green space just a few yards from the busy Beulah crossroads in Rhiwbina, Cardiff. It is linked to Canolfan Beulah – a community centre that is owned and managed by Beulah Church. The Canolfan garden is enjoyed by the general public as well as members of the church".
