Green bin collections go monthly

Green-bin garden waste collections have moved from fortnightly to monthly from this week.

This will mean two more collections before the service shuts for winter.

Cardiff Council said the waste collection crews will focus on food waste, general waste and recycling which significantly increases as we approach Christmas and people spend more time at home.

There will be one-off collections after Christmas to remove Christmas trees, and ‘community big sweep events’ and the leaf fall street cleaning team will also operate over winter.

Residents can still take garden waste to the recycling centres at Lamby Way or Bessemer Close by booking an appointment online or on the Cardiff Gov App.

Councils don’t have to collect garden waste. Most of those that do, make an extra charge, so Cardiff is unusual in offering it as part of its general waste and recycling service.
