FRIENDSICAL – COULD IT BE ANY FUNNIER?

Friendsical is an original and iconic parody musical, inspired by the popular TV show Friends.

Last night, Thursday 8th September, was its opening night at New Theatre, Cardiff. Sadly, it was also the day of the tragic passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

As is said commonly in show business, “the show must go on”. However before the performance, they made a touching tribute to the Queen, followed by two minutes’ silence to honour her life, legacy, and service to our country.

In Friendsical, we rejoin Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Monica and Chandler for a fun-filled, nostalgic evening, featuring all 10 seasons and 236 episodes, as well as that memorable brown couch in Central Perk.

This production presents the show of Friends through Ross’s perception, summarising the 10 years they all spent together. As they only had an evening, they had to cram it all in, and they managed to do that perfectly. The attention to detail throughout the show is incredible, with jokes and props from the show scattered throughout.

Playing the famous friends are Sario Solomon as Joey, Sarah Michelle-Kelly as Monica, Nelson Bettencourt as Ross, Tim Edwards as Chandler, Ally Retberg as Phoebe and Amelia Kinu Muus as Rachel.

Due to the success of the show, these parts are huge, and a big responsibility. The whole cast were amazing, from the singing to the body language. Chandler in particular was exceptional, the mannerisms he brought to the character were extraordinary, and very Chandler-like.

There was also a special guest appearance from Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt who showed off her many talents, and played a mystery character. She is back for tonight’s (Friday) show, while Joanne Clifton steps in for tomorrow’s (Saturday) finale.

This production features original songs such as (He’s her) Lobster!, Richard’s Moustache, and You’re Over Me? When Were You Under Me?, which will have you singing long after the musical has finished!

The writer-director, Miranda Larson says: “From day one of airing, I have been a huge fan of the TV show, and it has been a dream to stage and celebrate this iconic series. There is something for everyone in Friendsical, from the well-known references to ones that only mega fans (like me) will get. Oh and if you are new to Friends, then it’s a fun musical love story that can be easily followed!”

It really is the perfect show for a Friends fanatic!

Friendsical is visiting Cardiff for a limited time from Thursday 8th September to Saturday 10th September so make sure to get your ticket for this amazing performance. Tickets are available by ringing 0343 310 0041 or by clicking here.
