First public screening for local animated film

A locally made animated short film had its first public screening this week (Monday 3 August).

A Fish Out of Water, which was shown as part of the monthly MovieMaker programme at Chapter Arts Centre, is produced by our own Andy Weltch from a script he co-wrote with award-winning Rhiwbina-born and -raised Rob Lancey.

"People certainly seemed to like it," said Andy. "There was a very positive response, especially to the funny moments. The audience included several filmmakers and other film enthusiasts, so that's especially pleasing.

"We're now hoping for further screenings in the coming months, as we wait to hear from various festivals we've entered around the UK and overseas."

Earlier in the summer, there was a private screening for cast, crew, and supporters, but this was the first time the wider public has had chance to see the film.

Described as 'a Victorian tale of the fantastical and bizarre' and set in an alternative version of the 1890s, it follows the events which unfold when Henry Godliman - a 'chronicler of the extraordinary' (voiced by Robert Daws) - arranges to hear the tales of three sailors, just returned from a long sea voyage.

Robert is a familiar face from many TV series, including Jeeves and Wooster, Outside Edge, Roger Roger, The Royal, and Poldark.
