Do it yourself dog wash comes to North Cardiff

A novel new service is coming to north Cardiff - Waggy Wash Club, a self-service indoor dog wash. Think car wash but much smaller and for your pets not your Porsche!

The Cardiff club is believed to be the first in the UK to offer an indoor dog wash, while other similar services across the country are sited outdoors only.

After a public Facebook survey which received 150 responses, plus 71 emails, Cardiff owners Jon and Natassja, honed their ideas taking local dog owners' feedback into account as they developed the service.

The new premises, at 11 Llangranog Road in Llanishen, houses self-contained wash and dryer stations and there is also an option for assisted washing if customers are unable, or would prefer not, to get their hands dirty (or wet).

The couple had originally spotted outdoor dog washes in parks and green spaces but Jon, having grown up with dogs, recognised the potential for an indoor service, offering a warm and dry environment all year round.

Jon and Natassja are at pains to stress their service is not in competition with dog groomers but instead provides a simpler and convenient alternative for mucky pups, while also avoiding the chaos and mess of doggy bath-time at home.

Waggy Wash's social media pages show a lot of support for the new service with many pups featured by their owners who are looking forward to the opening.

Unfortunately, it hasn't all been plain sailing as the business recently fell foul of a rogue trader which delayed the ongoing refurbishment and incurred additional costs. The couple have, however, handled the situation pragmatically and rolled their sleeves up to get the work done.

Jon and Natassja will be holding an 'open day' on Saturday 28 February to demonstrate the machines and answer questions from dog owners. Adjoining premises Hey Jude's coffee shop and Dusty's pizzeria will also be open for business.
