With fewer than 100 days to go until Christmas, Cardiff Council has announced some of the festive attractions the city will be offering.
Ice Rink in the Castle
Cardiff Castle is the location for Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland Ice Rink and Ice Walk, which returns from 16 November 2023 until 2 January 2024, complete with its colony of penguin skate-aids for smaller guests. Tickets coming soon.
A Winter Wonderland
Cardiff City Hall Lawn will host rides and funfair games on the Winter Wonderland second site. It features an apres-ski bar, plus free family entertainment. Free entry: 16 November 2023 to 2 January 2024
An Ice Bar
The sub-zero temperatures in the Ice Bar at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland on City Hall Lawn make it the coolest place to chill out this Christmas. It’s made entirely out of ice, so wrap up warm to enjoy this drink with your friends! Details coming soon on how to book.
A larger-than-life light trail
The mesmerising Christmas at Bute Park light trail celebrates its third year with new immersive experiences, plus a new route that’s 50% longer than before. Tickets for the award-winning trail, which runs from 24 November 2023 until 1 January 2024, are on sale now.
Christmas Market
Cardiff Christmas Market is the perfect place to find a handcrafted gift. A classic piece of Christmas in Cardiff, the traditional chalets, talented makers, and the market’s uniquely festive atmosphere return to the city centre from 9 November 2023 to 23 December 2023.
Spiegeltent
Spiegeltents have a long history of travelling from place to place, bringing music and entertainment with them and, after its successful Cardiff debut last year, the 500-seat European Spiegeltent returns in a new location for 2023. Built from wood, cut mirrors, canvas, leaded glass, and adorned with velvet brocade, visitors to the magical and intimate hand-hewn pavilion in Sophia Gardens can enjoy show-stopping burlesque cabaret ‘Castellana’, the feelgood ‘Santa’s Wish,’ the melodic ‘Welsh of the West End,’ an amazing Abba themed Christmas Party night, and a one-off comedy night called the Christmas Cracker, from 1 December 2023 to 24 December 2023. Cosy cabins
You can snuggle up in a cosy Festive Quarter cabin in a Bavarian-themed haven, the Festive Quarter on Working Street. It’s a great place to refuel with a beer and a bratwurst. Opens in November.
Christmas Lights
This year Cardiff’s Christmas lights will slowly twinkle into life as darkness falls on 16 November, and Christmas in Cardiff begins.
Christmas Grottos
Santa and his elves will be setting up ho-ho-homes from home at Cardiff Castle, as well on Queen Street and at the Principality Stadium. Ticketed events, various dates November and December 2023.
Christmas Banquet
A festive feast in Cardiff Castle’s vaulted, 15th century undercroft includes traditional Welsh entertainment, mead tasting on arrival and a a Master of Ceremonies to guide you through the evening. Booking required, dates from November through December.
