The pedestrian level crossing at Ty Glas station is due to reopen next week, it has been reported.

Councillors for Heath and Birchgrove posted on Facebook that Transport for Wales has confirmed with them that it is planning to reopen the crossing on Friday 24 October.

As we reported in the summer, the station itself is set to remain closed until spring 2026 to allow for upgrades to accommodate the new trains.

The councillors, Mike Ash-Edwards, Graham Hinchey, and Julie Sangani, reported that, as the station works continue, TfW says it may need to close the crossing again for short periods, but this should be limited to 1–2 day closures.

🚆 Meanwhile, TfW has recently welcomed South Africa's Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, to North Cardiff to visit the new South Wales Metro depot at Taff's Well (pictured below).

The visit was part of a wider UK engagement on learning from international best practices in rail and transport infrastructure.

TfW provided an insight into how a devolved nation manages and delivers a major integrated transport project.

The Minister was hosted by TfW Chief Infrastructure Officer Dan Tipper and Policy Director Sam Hadley, alongside the South African Department for Transportation's Deputy Director General, Ngwako Makaepea.

Members of the Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) also joined the visit, travelling with the group on a new Class 756 train to Taff's Well depot.
