Stage and screen actor Vivien Parry to star in new North Cardiff play

A new play set in the North Cardiff suburbs will star stage and screen actor Vivien Parry, when it premieres at the Sherman Theatre this spring.

The Wife of Cyncoed, written by Matt Hartley and directed by Hannah Noone, will play from 7 to 23 March.

Described as 'an entertaining monologue', the play introduces Jayne, a divorcee approaching a crossroads in her life.

Set in the Cardiff suburbs of Cyncoed and Lakeside, The Wife of Cyncoed is the first production in Sherman Theatre's 2024 season, which includes five brand new plays sharing south Wales stories that resonate the world over.

Jayne's life is at a crossroads. Brought up in Rumney, she lived it up in Cyncoed, but after a bitter divorce she found herself living alone in Lakeside.

Newly retired and at odds with her kids, a new way of living suddenly opens to her. But will she give herself permission to live her new life fully?

Vivien Parry recently starred as Fraulein Schneider in the hit West End show Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club; the most-awarded musical revival in the Olivier Awards' history. Elsewhere in the West End, she has performed in Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, Top Hat, and Half a Sixpence.

Her other theatre credits include Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and 13 Theatr Clwyd productions.

On the big screen, Vivien has also appeared in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and her TV credits include Holby City and EastEnders.

Vivien said: "Cardiff is a city that always has my heart. I'm from a south Wales valleys family but work, love, friendships and rugby always draw me back to Cardiff. I'm thrilled to be performing this role in this theatre; both firmly rooted in a city I love."
