Rhiwbina Summer Festival preview

Summer is here (well almost) and that can only mean one thing - the Rhiwbina Summer Festival is coming!

Spread over two days - Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June at Parc y Pentre in the centre of the village - the Festival will, as usual, be jam-packed with entertainment, refreshments and over 30 stalls.  Check our events calendar for more details.

Friday night is music night.  Get your groove on to Steffan belting out the Beatles, Dylan and the Beach Boys, Eddie’s Bedroom and the Bayside Boogiemen between 5.15 and 9.30pm.  Take your pick of a range of delicious food and drink on the night.

On Saturday, the fun continues, kicking off with the Rhiwbina Festival Choir, followed by the Rock Choir, Shiny Happy People and Heol Llanishen Fach and Pentyrch Primary schools.

Dance takes centre stage with Pop Stars and don't miss the sing-along  with Frozen favourites Anna and Elsa and the Suzanne Scale Performing Arts showcase.

As well as the many stalls and array of refreshments on sale, highlights include the sports arena, offering games for children and the popular dog show at 3-4pm. There are also sessions with local author Sue Barrow and Rhiwbina artist Eric Heyman to get those creative juices flowing.

This year, the Festival's chosen charity is the Jacob Abraham Foundation which raises vital awareness of mental health and suicide.  Donations to the Foundation can be made in return for free face painting at the Northwood stand.

An important feature of the Festival is the promotion of environmentally friendly solutions. The event will therefore be proudly single-use-plastic-cup free, with all drinks vendors committed to using Rhiwbina branded reusable cups.  So, either buy these at the Festival or bring your own cups or containers.  Be part of the solution, not the problem!

Holding such a huge, varied event takes a lot of planning, coordination and fundraising by the good folk of Rhiwbina Events.  None of this could happen without the support of generous local businesses and a host of dedicated volunteers.  So come along and enjoy a fun community day out – after all, there's "Nothing Finer than Living in Rhiwbina!”
