Rhiwbina station, along with Whitchurch and Birchgrove - which, despite their names, are both also in Rhiwbina - have been listed among the worst performing in Britain.

Statistics released last week by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) list the three in the 10 worst performing stations, measured by the percentage of trains cancelled, Wales Online reported.

The figures show that 11.7% of trains at our three local stations on the Coryton Line were cancelled between 5 January and 1 February this year.

The worst performing station in England, Scotland, and Wales during that period was Ince and Elton in Cheshire, with 22.8% of trains cancelled.

However, there is some doubt about the reliability of the data, and the ORR says it should be treated as 'provisional'.

We reported last month that a Sunday service will be returning to the Coryton Line, and there's the possibility of weekday freqency increasing from two trains per hour (2tph) to four per hour (4tph).

Professor Mark Barry, the expert behind the South Wales Metro concept, has said there is "little or no point" in running a 2tph service in Cardiff if the authorities are serious about encouraging people to use rail and running the service efficiently. You can read that story here.
