Rhiwbina, Heath, and Llandaff North regeneration projects announced

Regeneration projects in Rhiwbina, Heath, and Llandaff North are among nine across Cardiff, announced for completion over the coming year.

They are part of Cardiff Council's 2025 Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme (NRS) programme, which funds environmental and public realm improvements proposed by local councillors.

Rhiwbina's councillors, Jayne Cowan, Adrian Robson, and Oliver Owen (pictured) submitted a joint bid under the NRS for improvements in Rhiwbina Village and Heol Llanishen Fach shopping areas.

They told us: "While final details are to be worked out, we are delighted that our bid was successful, especially as we have been turned down on previous occasions.

"We are often approached about improving the shopping areas in Rhiwbina village and at Heol Llanishen Fach and by winning this bid we hope that it will help attract more visitors to these shopping centres."

In all, 27 project ideas were submitted by councillors around Cardiff, and each was assessed against criteria including regeneration impact, sustainability, tackling disadvantage, community involvement, and deliverability.

As a result, nine community regeneration projects have been prioritised for full delivery in 2025/26, with four more selected for scoping and design work.

Among the nine are:

•Rhiwbina -  Village public realm improvements

Refurbishment of the street scene in Rhiwbina village shopping area.

Heath - Birchgrove shops public realm enhancements

Public realm improvements on Caerphilly Road to create a more inviting and sustainable local shopping centre.

•Llandaff North  - MUGA relocation at Hailey Park

Moving the existing multi-use games area to an alternative location and creating a modern, inclusive and accessible facility.

As well as:

•Riverside - Lower Cathedral Road retail environment improvements

•Llanrumney - Countisbury Avenue shops enhancements

•Grangetown - Street end improvements

•Caerau  - Play area upgrades

•Fairwater - Chorley Close playground refurbishment

•Cathays - Gelligaer Street / Maindy Road junction improvements & MUGA artwork.

The projects aim to enhance neighbourhoods and improve quality of life for residents, and are designed and delivered in partnership with local businesses, residents and community groups.

With support from the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Funding in addition to council funding, more than £2m has been secured for the schemes this year.

Cardiff Council's cabinet member for housing and communities, Lee Bridgeman said:

"Since the programme began in 2000, a total of 127 local regeneration projects have been successfully delivered right across the city. We're proud to continue investing in

neighbourhoods where it's needed most."
