Rhiwbina Squash and Racketball Club has been awarded the prestigious Gold Charter Award.
The club’s Richard Plenty is pictured (right) receiving the award from Andrew Hamar of Welsh Squash and Racketball, in the club’s fourth court, which is under construction.
The club has seven league teams, with players from beginners to international senior and master players. as well as 15 “ladder” tables, and is regarded as a truly collaborative and progressive club.
Work in the community
Working alongside Weston House (attached to Bridgend College) for the past 18 months, the club has been giving young adults with disabilities the chance to try racketball. This has been hailed a tremendous success.
The club has achieved the Disability Sport Wales Ribbon, which enables Rhiwbina to be included on the Disability Sport Wales website, which will give more people with disabilities a chance to try squash/racketball.
Once the club’s new fourth court is completed, which should be next month, the club will be offering anyone with disabilities the chance to try the sport at special sessions on a Monday evening.
