Now you can pay as you go on trains to and from Rhiwbina

You can now pay as you go on local train services by tapping in and out at North Cardiff stations including Rhiwbina, Whitchurch, Birchgrove, Llanishen, Llandaff, and Radyr.

Transport for Wales (TfW) is the first train operator outside of London and South East England to introduce this paying system.

It means you don't need to buy a ticket, just tap in and out with your bank card.

The technology is available at 95 TfW stations throughout South Wales, including all Valleys lines and on routes to Bridgend, Maesteg, the Vale of Glamorgan, Abergavenny and Chepstow. (See the map below)

As well as all the stations on the Coryton Line, which serves Rhiwbina, it covers the other Valleys lines on the South Wales Metro, for trains to Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr, Caerphilly, and Rhymey.

You can use pay-as-you-go for single journeys with fares starting at £2.60, and with automatic daily and weekly capping, so they offer a saving against standard 'anytime' singles and seven-day season tickets.

The Welsh Government's cabinet aecretary for transport, Ken Skates said: "This is another significant milestone towards our ambition to transform our railways and build a world-class metro service which enables us to deliver high-quality 'turn up and go' services for passengers."

Alexia Course, chief commercial officer at TfW, said: "Since launching Pay As You Go as a trial at the beginning of the year we've already seen more than 65,000 people choosing this simple and cost-effective way to pay for their travel".
