Beulah United Reformed Church (URC) has been awarded an Eco Church Gold Award “in recognition of their efforts to care for God’s earth”.
Beulah is “deeply concerned about the climate and nature crisis and the impact it is having on the world's poorest communities”.
Much of Beulah’s outreach is around environmental issues, working with Rhiwbina Against Plastics and Rhiwbina Eco Team and hosting the Repair Café. The church has hosted events such as the “Grown Not Flown” flower festival and a Sustainable Fashion Fair. A project working with community artist Jo Jones resulted in a gallery of images highlighting options for reducing carbon footprints, protecting nature and preventing pollution.
The church has commissioned surveys to review how their buildings can be more energy efficient and direct outcomes of their eco values include using low energy lighting, loft insulation and solar panels, as well as switching to a green energy supplier and divesting from fossil fuels.
Beulah has also lobbied in support of campaigns run by Christian Aid and the Climate Coalition and met local politicians to discuss climate justice issues.
