Road closure for gas network upgrade work in Rhiwbina

Wales & West Utilities is to carry out essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Rhiwbina area.

It will take place for four weeks between next Monday, 22 February and Sunday, 21 March.

The company says the work “aims to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses so local people are kept safe and warm for generations to come”.

In planning the work, the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Cardiff Council and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place which involves a road closure on Pantbach Road from its junction with Tyn-Y-Parc Road.  A diversion route, which will be clearly signposted, will take motorists along Ty Wern Road, Caerphilly Road and Beulah Road. .

Wales & West Utilities’ Adam Smith, who is project managing the work, said: “We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.

“Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2-metre distance if passing our work site.

“To power a green recovery from coronavirus, we’ll be working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future.”
