Rhiwbina Tennis Club Wins Award

Rhiwbina Tennis Club has won a prestigious Tennis Wales award for Competition of the Year, writes Sophie Platt.

The club won the award for their hosting the only International Seniors tournament in Wales in 2020. During this tournament, they welcomed 107 competitors to Rhiwbina. The club last won this award in 2018 for the same competition.

The judges said that Rhiwbina Tennis Club “rose to the challenge, bringing a brilliant competition to all 19 nations who entered and keeping everyone safe while doing so”.

The club has an impressive record of achievement, having been shortlisted for Tennis Wales Club of the Year award three times, last winning it in 2016. Head coach Thomas James also won the ITF seniors championship in 2019 and the ITF grade 3 competition which took place in the Netherlands in 2020.

This year has been very difficult for everyone, especially clubs such as Rhiwbina Tennis as they have had to close and then reopen several times. Receiving this award is an incredible honour and achievement. Congratulations to Rhiwbina Tennis!
