Community projects in North Cardiff were among the 153 groups and organisations which received over £91,000 from Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water's community fund last year.
Among its 2023 community activities, the not-for-profit company says it has been fostering a strong sense of community spirit in Whitchurch and Llandaff North, particularly during ongoing work in Hailey Park.
Recognising the impact of their project on local residents, Welsh Water reports that it has been supporting groups in the area through additional community funding - including Whitchurch RFC, Llandaff Beavers, local food banks and various community workshops.
The funding has also supported projects which help protect and enhance the environment around Wales. This has included encouraging wildlife in local communities, installing bug and bat homes and providing funds for outside learning areas.
The company has also given more than 210 hours of volunteering hours through 23 volunteering activities throughout the past year, ranging from litter-picking, supporting an animal rescue centre, tree planting and gardening.
And, again in North Cardiff, Welsh Water colleagues rallied together to donate presents to Pontprennau Community Church for families who were struggling at Christmas. The church hosted Christmas Day for the families to enjoy together, open presents and have Christmas lunch.
Donated gifts ranged from a bike to cinema tickets, from baby toys to an air hockey table. And Revd Lee Battle, who runs the church, said: "I'm grateful that hearts like yours lit up Christmas day with joy! The generous present donation bought smiles to all their faces. We shared an unforgettable day together made more so by the kindness of strangers. It encapsulated the true meaning of Christmas. I am utterly overwhelmed by the experience which you all helped us to create."
Claire Roberts, head of community engagement for Welsh Water said: "We're proud to have supported so many incredible causes throughout 2023".
