Robert 'Bob' Lewis, one of Rhiwbina's oldest residents, passed away last Tuesday (10 June). He was 95 years old.
He was born at home in Pantbach Road on 6 July 1929 and lived most of his life in Rhiwbina.

His family home in Pantbach Road was bombed during the second world war and he and his family moved to Heath for a short period, moving back to Rhiwbina when he got married in 1956.
He was educated in Whitchurch Grammar School and completed his national service towards the end of the war.
Bob enjoyed sport, playing rugby for Llandaff and Cowbridge rugby clubs. He was also a keen swimmer and eventually took over as coach at the Welsh Nomads Swimming Club based in Guildford Crescent swimming pools.
When all the Cardiff swimming clubs merged, early in the 1970s, Bob became assistant to Dave Haller, one of the world's best swimming coaches.

As Bob came into retirement he learnt to play golf and became a life member at Llanishen Golf Club. Golf became a big part of his and his wife Lilian's life, both playing well into their 80s.
The family had lived in Clos-yr-Wenallt, Heol Uchaf and laterly Heol Briwnant. He is survived by his three sons, five grand children and three great grand children.
Bob will be remembered for his wicked sense of humour and his ability to say it as it is! Quote - "he was one of the good guys!"
Information contributed by Bob's son, Jon.
