Cricket Wales has appointed award-winning Rhiwbina communications agency Weltch Media to handle its media relations and help build its social media presence.
Senior consultant and owner, Andrew Weltch, will handle the account, which will initially run for six months.
The Heol y Coed-based agency includes Tennis Wales and Mid-Wales motorsport team Guttercrest Racing among its current sports clients in Wales.
Last year, it became the first in Wales to win a ‘BestFor PR’ award, scooping the gold Wales ‘regional’ award as well as silver awards for its work in the sport and public services sectors.
“As a lifelong cricket fan, this work really will mix business and pleasure,” said Weltch, who is also a long-time member of Glamorgan County Cricket Club.
Cricket Wales chief executive officer Peter Hybart added: “We have a lot of great stories to tell, but don’t always have the resources or know-how to communicate our messages in the right way. I’ve been well aware of the excellent work Weltch Media has done in other sports, so we’re keen to work together to spread the word about the success stories in Welsh cricket.”
Weltch Media provides communications services, including PR, publications, web content, social media and training, for a range of clients throughout Wales and beyond.
