How a nursery school in Rhiwbina inspired one in Hackney 30 years later

Do you remember Greenways Nursery School in Rhiwbina?

A former pupil is trying to trace the family who ran it – to let them know they inspired him to set up a nursery in London.

Rich Weltch, who later went to Rhiwbeina Primary School, attended Greenways in 1992-94 and has happy memories of his time there.

“Greenways was on the corner of Pen y Groes Road and Heol yr Efail, I think, and I went there from around the age of three.

“I have lots of happy memories of the place - being outside, the climbing frame, nativity plays, and the generally caring environment.

“It was owned and run by a Mrs Jones, and her daughter was also involved. I wonder if anyone is around who went there or was involved? Id’ love to hear from them.”

Rich, who is a director of Greenwood Nursery Schools in London, is opening a new nursery in Hackney next month (March).

Greenwood Hackney (pictured) will be the third member of the Greenwood family, which also includes sites in Twickenham and Wandsworth.

Rich also owns and runs a weekend and holiday-time forest school in Hackney – Greenways Forest School, named after the Rhiwbina nursery of his childhood.

If anyone has any information about Greenways in Rhiwbina or the Jones family, Rich would love to hear from you at rich@greenwoodnursery.school
