In the 35+ final, Tom lost to Hermes Gamonal – a man with an impressive record, having beaten Stan Wawerinka of Switzerland in the 2004 French Open, before losing to Marcos Baghdatis.
Gamonal has been ranked as high as 135 in the world, and has played the likes of Hewitt, Safin, Baghdatis, Davydenko and the Brian brothers.
In Tenerife, Tom beat his hitting partner Aldo Marzolo in the semi final 6-4 6-4 in a late night match finishing at 11.20pm. In the quarter finals he beat Romen Amador from Spain 6-2 6-2.
Tom said it was “a great honour to play a world class pro”.
